Sreenivasan’s Padmashree Bharath Dr Saroj Kumar has been in news for all the wrong reasons. Film that was supposed to be a satire on Malayalam film industry ran into trouble as it was particularly targeting Mohanlal. Irony was that the film was marketed as a sequel to 2005 blockbuster film Udayananu Tharam featuring Mohanlal in the lead.
In the Sreenivasan had particlularly targetted Mohanlal by moking the income tax raids, advertisements featuring the actor, collection of antiques, his appointment as Leutieant colonel in the Army. How Mohanlal’s appointment as Leutieant colonel in the Army, was more sarcastic than satire.
The first controversy to hit the headlines when cinematographer S Kumar revealed that Antony Perumbavoor, had called him up and threatened him over the content of the film.
As the film failed to make any impact at the box office, Vyshakha Rajan the producer blamed the film’s director stating that he didn’t even know the basics of film making. He also blamed the director and cinematographer Sajin Raghavan and S Kumar respectively, for delaying the project and thereby increasing the films budget by Rs 80 lakh.
Director Sajin Raghavan strike back against the allegations made against him and the blame game continued. The producer went on to remove their names from the films 25th day Posters.
The film topped the controvroisy chart and remained in news since its release, but was for all the wrong reasons. Padmashree Bharath Dr Saroj Kumar can be easily called as the worst sequel made in the history of Malayalam cinema.
