Annayum Rasoolum was the first big release of 2013 and carried lot of pre-release buzz with hit music, Fahadh Fazil after a highly successful 2012. Moreover, it was the first directorial venture of ace cinematographer Rajeev Ravi. Annayum Rasoolum took an excellent opening collecting more than 90 lakhs in its opening weekend but started to decline from Monday. The movie carried mixed response from the public and the critcs.
Annayum Rasoolum collected a decent 1.7 crore from 55 cinemas in its opening week mainly due to the impressive opening the film had received. The movie had reasonably good second weekend though the collections remained in the lower side. In its second week Annayum Rasoolum added another 1.2 crore, taking the two weeks total to 2.9 crore.
The running time of 2 hours 48 minutes become major drawback as people felt the film was unnecessarly dragged and this changed the fate of the movie. Annayum Rasoolum could have become the first blockbuster of 2013, if the editor had done his job well. However in a recent report published by Sify says that it was the director who insisted to keep the running time as it is, while rest of the crew wanted the film to be trimmed.
Though it doesnt make much sense to dig much to find how is at fault, but because of the excessive length Annayum Rasoolum ended up as an average grosser when it had all the potential to become the first blockbuster of the year.
