Lokpal Becomes The First Casuality Of 2013

Mohanlal-Joshiy team announced Lokpal right after the mega success of Run Baby Run. The film also united the trio Mohanlal-Joshiy-S N Swami after two decades. Expectations were high, and fans of the actor didnt expect nothing less than a blockbuster but when released, the film turned out to be a damp squib.

The film released on a weekday, though took a decent start in the range of 75-85% in most of the ceneters, fell in the release day itself. The negative word-of-mouth spread so badly that the film didnt witnessed a big jump in collection over the weekend.

The film turned out to be a mere fancy dress show, even the hard core fans of the actor couldnt digest thus making Lokpal the first casuality of the year. The film was panned by the critics (Read Review) and blammed SN Swamy for this flop show.

It is interesting to note that Mohanlal much publicised Casanova too was released in same time last year and become the biggest disaster in Malayalam.

The film may hang around in cinemas for the next few weeks, thanks to a strong and powerful distributor (Max Labs). But the theater owners may have the show the film with empty halls.
